Cialis
Cialis (tadalafil) is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5 inhibitors), which are used to treat conditions such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Cialis is available in tablet form and is taken orally. It is available in four strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. The recommended starting dose for most men is 10 mg. Cialis can be taken with or without food.
How Does Cialis Work?
Cialis works by relaxing the muscles of the blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis. This helps men to achieve and maintain an erection. Cialis does not cure erectile dysfunction, and it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
What Are the Side Effects of Cialis?
The most common side effects of Cialis are headache, flushing, stuffy or runny nose, indigestion, upset stomach, muscle pain, back pain, and rarer side effects include vision problems, prolonged erections (priapism), and sudden hearing loss.
What Are the Precautions When Taking Cialis?
Cialis is not for use in women or children. It is not known whether Cialis is safe and effective in women. Cialis is not for use in children.
How Should I Take Cialis?
Cialis is usually taken only once per day. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
What Happens if I Miss a Dose?
If you miss a dose of Cialis, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Cialis.
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Cialis and get emergency medical help if you have:
- a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
- an erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours (prolonged erection can damage the penis);
- vision changes or sudden vision loss;
- ringing in your ears or sudden hearing loss;
- chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
- irregular heartbeat;
- swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
- shortness of breath;
- vision problems;
- feeling light-headed, fainting; or
- penis erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer.
